Sometimes I feel like time becomes meaningless during the hours that I’m forced to rest due to the widespread pain of chronic illness. Attention to diet, gentle exercise, stretching, massage, meditation, and good medical care are all important components of healing and well being. Rest is essential.
When the doc asks me to describe my pain level on a scale of 1 to 10, I find that laughably odd. How am I to know what a level 10 actually is? I’m guessing that would be the type of pain you might feel when being run over by a cement truck and actually surviving. So, I just don’t use that number as an answer even though I want to shout that it is a LEVEL 12!
The chart should actually depict how a person is coping with life, i.e., did you drive yourself to the doctor’s office, did you put your shirt on inside-out, can you lift a spoon to eat, does your hair hurt, did you verbally attack the ones you love, are you going to Burning Man next year?
Recently I told my son that I felt like I was wasting a lot of time. He asked me whose time I was wasting. He said that if it was my time, then I shouldn’t worry about it. So, on that note I just spent a couple of hours painting words on a bunch of rocks.
